The excessive nutrient input and micropollutants contained in wastewater threatens to suffocate the Earth’s surface water. Against this backdrop, it is crucial that material cycles are closed in order to recover nutrients and remove pollutants from circulation. This requires the separation of component streams from wastewater as they form. The save! separation toilet utilises the surface tension effect to divert the urine, thus facilitating ecological purification and enabling the recycling of nutrients as fertiliser.
