The .eco domain, which provides an expiration date for data with a short shelf life, is a concept for saving energy on the Internet. The approach saves disk space on servers and reduces power consumption. Tested among others on Facebook, the new domain can be applied to other Internet sites; .eco is design- and concept-independent from the respective networks.
