Baubotanik

The Baubotanik approach combines biological and constructive principles with an architectural concept. Thereby, trees are affixed to constructional elements. Over time, the increasing size and stability of the trees has the effect of creating living structures. Additional constructions that are required only at the beginning of the process can be later dismantled. In addition to its uniquely welcoming qualities, the project contributes to the urban climate and highlights the potential of the ecological and spatial utilisation of plants in architecture and urban planning.
Award winner 2017 in the category »Konzept«»Baubotanik, or construction using ‘grown’ structures, is a visionary design approach that connects architecture with nature. Here, the steel framework and the structure provided by the growing tree form a symbiotic connection that serves as a stable bearing structure. This results in living structures that grow and change, becoming more stable over time. All of the advantages offered by nature, such as shade and the absorption of CO2, are integrated into the building concept.«
