»The panel of judges paid tribute to hansgrohe’s unwavering desire to be innovative by nominating its Planet Edition shower fitting for an award. The team in hansgrohe’s own lab has spent years trying to minimise water flow and have now got it down to approx. 6 L/minute. In the judges’ opinion, the use of recycled ABS and upcycled PET are brand-new options in the industry and quite a quantum leap.«

Three questions for Natascha Beha, Marketing Managerin of Hansgrohe SE
How did the idea for hansgrohe Planet Edition come about?
We wanted the Planet Edition is to be hansgrohe’s most sustainable line – particularly in the production phase. We took a critical look at our developments and identified the sustainability issues we’ll be focusing on in the future. One prime example is process innovation that allows production waste, for instance, chrome, to be recycled and incorporated into a new product.
What was your personal highlight in the hansgrohe Planet Edition development process? Was there a low point?
One big challenge was to ensure alternative materials still met stringent sanitary standards. So, we couldn’t have been happier when we finally came up with the first hand-held shower made with the innovative process. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it looks and feels. The Planet Edition has a less sedately technical, but more of a warm, appealing aesthetic and stands apart for its superior design.
Where do you see your project in the next five years?
Our Planet Edition underscores the meaning of sustainability during the showering process and the product’s manufacture. The innovative development process was the first step towards a circular economy. We’ll continue down this path. The new production processes are to become the default and will have an impact on other products. Technologies, such as the recycled yarns in our Designflex shower hose, will also be applied to standard products.
